What nature can teach you about resilience in your business

There’s a lesson I received many years ago from a spiritual teacher.

He spoke of the seasons of life within relationships, projects, all things that carry meaning.

The analogy he used was a fruit tree.

After a long, cold winter, its branches burst with leaves and blossoms to greet the warmth of spring.

During summer, the tree matures, strengthening its roots, widening its reach, nurtured by the sun’s unconditional vitality.

When fall arrives, its branches weigh heavy with fruit.

With a great sigh, fruits and golden leaves fall, coating the tree’s base in composted soil, preparing it for the cold winter.

As the nights grow longer, the tree stills its breath and descends into a meditative slumber.

Fully embracing the death that comes with winter allows the previous cycles to clear. Once spring approaches, the tree has all of its energy available to devote to new life.

The tree must give itself entirely to each season. If any stage is hindered, it will lack the energy to blossom and bear fruit, threatening its health and survival.

Much like the fruit tree, the patterns of our lives resemble the turning of the seasons.

If you make space for the emptiness, old pieces can move into new geometries to better serve your life’s unfolding.

Businesses, like trees, also move through natural cycles. Leaning into these rhythms provides patience and perspective. There is a time for everything.

Sometimes, pause and reevaluation are necessary.

This afternoon, we have a partial solar eclipse at 12:29 CDT.

Tomorrow marks the fall equinox.

This is a great time to reflect on how far you've come and where you wish to continue growing.
